About Nanchang Institute Of Technology

Nanchang Institute Of Technology is an undergraduate institute with engineering as the main subject, management, science, agriculture, literature, economics, art, etc., and distinctive characteristics of water conservancy and electricity. The institute was formerly a institute directly under the Ministry of Water Resources, and was jointly built by Jiangxi Provincial People’s Government and the Ministry of Water Resources in 2008. It was founded as Jiangxi College of Water Resources and Electricity in 1958, and resumed operation in 1978, and went through the stages of Jiangxi Water Conservancy and Hydropower institute, Jiangxi Engineering College, Jiangxi Water Conservancy College, Nanchang Water Conservancy and Hydropower College, Nanchang Higher College of Water Conservancy and Hydropower, etc. It was renamed as Nanchang Engineering College in 2004 and approved as a bachelor’s degree granting unit in 2005. In 2013, it was approved by the General Staff Department and the Ministry of Education as a pilot institution for training directly recruited non-commissioned officers, and in 2016, it passed the audit and evaluation of undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education. The institute has been approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council as a master’s degree awarding unit in 2018, selected as a national first-class professional construction institute in 2019, and two majors have passed the national engineering education professional certification since 2020. In 2021, the institute will start a new journey of “renaming and promotion of institute”.

The institute is located in Nanchang, the capital of Jiangxi Province, which is a famous historical and cultural city and the place where the military flag rises. The institute has two campuses, Yaohu and Pengjiaqiao, covering an area of 2046.9 mu, with a building area of 694,000 square meters, and a science and education base of 1000 mu in Jinxi County. The institute has 17 faculties (departments), including Graduate institute, College of Water Resources and Ecological Engineering, College of Civil and Architectural Engineering, College of Mechanical Engineering, College of Electrical Engineering, College of Information Engineering, College of Business Administration, College of Economics and Trade, College of Humanities and Arts, College of Science, College of Foreign Languages, College of International Education, College of Continuing Education, College of Marxism, Department of Physical Education, College of Non-Commissioned Officers and Yaohu College. It cooperates with Jiangxi Environmental Engineering Vocational College to cultivate undergraduate talents. There are more than 18,000 full-time students, including 769 graduate students and 15 international students. The institute has three master’s degree authorization points in water conservancy engineering, information and communication engineering and management science and engineering, and 10 master’s degree authorization points in civil engineering and water conservancy, forestry, machinery, energy and power, electronic information, business administration, applied statistics, publishing, art and translation. There are 57 undergraduate majors, including one national first-class major construction site, one national specialty major, six majors under the “Excellence Program” of the Ministry of Education (four majors under the “Excellence in Engineer Program” of the Ministry of Education, two majors under the “Excellence in Agriculture and Forestry Program” of the Ministry of Education). There are 6 majors under the “Excellence Program” of the Ministry of Education (4 majors under the “Excellence in Engineer Program” of the Ministry of Education and 2 majors under the “Excellence in Agriculture and Forestry Program” of the Ministry of Education), 7 majors with provincial characteristics, 11 majors under the provincial first-class program construction site, 6 majors under the provincial “Excellence Program” (5 majors under the provincial “Excellence in Engineer Program” and 6 majors under the provincial “Excellence in Agriculture and Forestry Program”). There are 6 provincial “Excellence Program” majors (5 provincial “Excellence in Engineer Program” and 1 provincial “Excellence in Agriculture and Forestry Program”), 2 international cooperative education majors, and 7 majors enrolled in the first batch.

The institute has more than 1,500 teaching staff, including more than 1,000 full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, 43.25% of them have senior titles and 89.38% have master’s degrees or above. There are 3 experts who enjoy the special allowance of the State Council, 9 second-level professors, 1 professional leader of water conservancy in national water conservancy colleges and universities, more than 100 provincial talents such as Jiangxi Province “Double Thousand Plan” candidates, experts who enjoy the special allowance of the provincial government, provincial academic and technical leaders of major disciplines, and provincial candidates for the 100 million talents project in the new century. A Nobel Prize winner was appointed as an honorary professor of the institute, and 8 outstanding talents were introduced flexibly. The institute has a total value of nearly 300 million yuan of teaching and research instruments and equipment. The institute has a collection of more than 1.5 million paper books, nearly 1.4 million electronic books, and 9 digital resource libraries in various Chinese and foreign languages.

There are 36 innovation platforms at all levels, including 5 national science and technology platforms, 15 provincial key laboratories, engineering research centers and other platforms; 5 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers; the National Institute of Southern Soil and Water Conservation Research Society and the Jiangxi Provincial Electronics Society are affiliated with our institute. The Journal of Nanchang Engineering College ranks high among the journals of engineering colleges in China. The institute has 2 provincial-level science and technology innovation teams and 4 provincial-level undergraduate teaching construction teams. In the past five years, the institute has been awarded 96 national projects, 908 provincial and ministerial projects, with a cumulative research expenditure of 470 million yuan; 892 patents and software copyrights; 3187 academic papers, including 507 SCI/EI retrieved papers; 12 provincial government science and technology awards, 11 provincial social science excellent achievement awards, 5 provincial teaching achievement awards, 2 Dayu water conservancy science and technology awards, 2 Liang Xi forestry science and technology awards. 2 Forestry Science and Technology Awards, including 1 Jiangxi Provincial Technical Invention Award and 2 Science and Technology Progress Awards. The institute has hosted the first International Youth Forum on Soil and Water Conservation, the third Global Forum on Forest Ecology and Economy, the annual academic conference of the Chinese Water Conservancy Society, the fifth China Precious Tree Symposium, and the annual academic conference of the Southern Soil and Water Conservation Research Society.
