辛夷坞[1]

王维

木末[2]芙蓉花,

山中发红萼[3]

涧户[4]寂无人,

纷纷开且[5]落。

注释:

[1] 辛夷坞:辋川附近的地名。辛夷,又名木笔,落叶乔木,春季开花,形似莲花。坞,四周高中间低的地方。

[2] 木末:树梢。

[3] 萼:花苞。

[4] 涧户:山涧两崖相向,状若门户,即山涧。孔稚珪《北山移文》:“涧户摧绝无与归”。一说山涧里的人家,似非。诗中明说“寂无人”,何来人家?

[5] 且:又。

The Magnolia Dale

Wang Wei

The magnolia-tipped trees,

In mountains burst in flowers.

The mute brook-side house sees,

Them blow and fall in showers.

This quatrain reveals the poet’s sympathy with the magnolia flowers which burst in blossom and then fall on decline.
