Luo ri xiu lian juan
Ting xia shui lian kong.
Zhi jun wei wo xin zuo
Chuang hu shi qing hong.

Chang ji ping shan tang shang
Qi zhen jiang nan yan yu
Miao miao mei gu hong
Ren de zui weng yu:
Shan se you wu zhong.

Yi qian qing, dou jing jing dao bi feng.
Hu ran lang qi, xian wu yi ye bai tou weng.
Kan xiao lan tai gong zi
Wei jie zhuang sheng tian lai
Gang dao you ci xiong.
Yi dian hao ran qi

Huangzhou’s Kuaizai Pavilion, Send As a Gift to Zhang Woquan

Sunset, roll up the embroidered curtains
Below the pavilion, water and sky are one.
Know you have made me a new poem
And have painted the doors and window frames green and red.

Long remember Pingtang Mountains
In Jiangnan on pillows in the mists and rain
Vast and distant without a solitary Chinese goose.
Understand the words of Zui Weng’s poem:
Mountain Colors Have Been Created Out of Nothing.

For thousands of acres, all of the bluish-green mountain peaks reflected upside-down
Suddenly waves arise and dance
In comes a white-hared old man in his rowboat.
Can laugh now about Lantai Gongzi’s poem about the wind
He does not understand Zhuangzi and the natural sounds of nature
Instead, he compared the wind to men and women
Once a person has integrity and the right energy
They can be sent into exile for hundreds of miles and still move like the wind.

Notes:

Jiangnan: Literally means south of the river. The river is the Changjiang (Yangzi River) and south is the area of Zhejiang Province.

Zui Weng: Literally means drunk old man. Refers in particular to the Song Dynasty poet, Ouyang Xiu, Su Dongpo’s mentor, and Ou’s poem titled Drunk Old Man Pavilion. The pavilion was located near Chuzhou city in the province of Anhui. The life and poetry of Ouyang Xiu will be featured later on this website.

Zhuangzi: (370-287 BC): Famous and dominant philosopher who in some ways was to Laozi what Saint Paul was to Jesus.
