Luo Yin Poem: To the Parrot –

To the Parrot

Luo Yin

Do not complain of golden cage and wings cut short;

The southern land is far warmer than the northwest.

Don’t clearly speak if you listen to my exhort;

You will offend if clearly your complaint’s expressed.

This is a satire against clear complaint for fear of offence.

“To the Parrot” is a poem written by Luo Yin, a poet of the late Tang and Fifth Dynasties.
This poem is different from the usual poetic rendition of objects, but it uses a parrot to express his heart. The poem is about the author’s own situation; he expresses his sorrow by persuading the parrot to express his depression.
