Little by little, autumn scenery ceases to remain
Sunset, red leaves fill the steps.
Should be the time to celebrate the Double Ninth Days
Ascend the terraced pavilions for an expansive view, cornel fragrances fall down.

Purple chrysanthemum atmosphere, fluttering in my front courtyard
Evening mists and a light rain emerge.
Honking of young wild geese from their cold throats
Melancholy and regrets every year, long for social occasions.

Notes:

Double Ninth Days: Celebrated on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month. Because the number nine has too much yang energy (according to the Yi Jing), to achieve a yin-yang balance one needs to climb a mountain, drink chrysanthemum wine, and wear a zhuyu (cornel, aka the cherry dogwood) branch.
